Future Student Letter

Dear Future Student,

I've never really liked writing and I didn't think I would like this class. I found out that our course theme was food/foodways and I was not looking forward to the assignments we were going to be completing. After the first couple of classes and some discussions about how different people view food, I realized that English 110 wasn't going to be that bad.

In order to be successful in English 110, just complete the work. I wouldn't wait until the last minute to start the larger assignments. Writing in small chunks at a time helped me. Make sure to turn everything in on time and take your instructor's advice to heart. Apply any suggestions you are given to future assignments and you'll do fine. Use the correct style for the type of assignment you are working as too. Be formal in academic papers like the Analytical Research Paper and Commonplace editing that you will do. You can be more casual in the blogs, Commonplace, and some small in class exercises.

The class will be more fun if you interact with other people in the class. The same applies with the instructor and discussions that will occur during class. Try to have fun with what you're doing or it won't be any fun. I personally enjoyed that video clips that we were shown during class, and the analysis of a comic that we looked at. Hopefully you will enjoy your class as much as I did. Good luck!
